The whole of the Government Telegraph and Telephone systems in Victoria, elsewhere in the Island, Kowloon and the New Territories was severely damaged. Iron poles were snapped or bent and the wires broken either by the direct force of the wind or by falling trees. In the New Territories nearly all the wooden poles are reported to be down. The approximate estimate for repairing Telegraphs and Telephones is as follows:-

In Victoria roads with a Westerly aspect along the sea front such as Connaught Road, Praya West at Kennedy Town and Praya East suffered considerably, the macadam or concrete surfaces being broken up and undermined and the pitching in some places being left bare, while in others there were subsidences. On the higher levels the surface binding was washed away by the heavy rains and a few slips occurred. On the Peak a small part of one road was carried away by a landslip. Elsewhere in
