288 suffered various small damages, of which the most serious from the point of view of water supply was the giving way of a bay on the top of the Taitam Reservoir Byewash, by which 23 million gallons of water were lost. Owing, however, to the promptness with which the damage was made good under the supervision of Mr. Hollingsworth, Executive Engineer, and to the streams running strongly into the reservoir, the loss is being made up. The Taitam Conduit took in a quantity of sand and gravel, which has to be removed. Landslips threatened but did not seriously injure the Pokfulam Conduit. The various quarters for Overseers and Watchmen received slight damage; five meters fixed to wharf supplies were lost in the harbour when the wharves were destroyed, but an endeavour will be made to recover them by divers.
On the Kowloon side, injuries were done to the waterboat supply plant at Lai Chi Kok; the cost of repairing which will, however, mostly fall on the Water Companies.
