My Lord,

In reply to Your Lordship's Circular des-

patch of the 6th. July, 1906, received yesterday, asking

for certain information on the subject of railways in this

Colony, I have the honour to state that

(1) a railway 21 miles in length to be constructed

and owned by the Hongkong Government has been authorised

and is under construction;

(2) funds for this line will be furnished from repay-

ments of a loan from the Hongkong Government to that of the

Hu Kwang Provinces of China; and

(3) the preliminary estimate for this line is

£500,000, and for reclaiming a site for the terminal sta-

tion £50,000.
