Referring to my telegram. of the 14th.

instant reporting the piratical attack on the British S.S.

"Sainam" on the West River on the 13th. instant, I have

the honour to transmit in case it should not yet have

reached Your Lordship through the Foreign Office a copy of

a report on the subject sent on the 18th. instant by His

Majesty's Consul-General at Canton to His Majesty's Charge

d'Affaires at Peking, together with copies of the deposi-

tions taken at the enquiry held by Mr. Mansfield on board

the pirated vessel immediately after her arrival in Canton.
