With reference to my despatch No.118 of the
29th. April, 1905, I have the honour to transmit for your
Zordship's
information six copies of the report of the Director of
Public Works for the year 1905.

The total expenditure on Public Works (De-
partment, Recurrent and Extraordinary) was 34.22% of the
total expenditure of the Colony for the year. The corres-
ponding percentage in 1904 was 31.5. According to the
estimates it will be 31.94 in 1906.

For the reasons given in my despatch above
referred to the proportion of the expenditure on the depart-
ment to the combined expenditure on recurrent and extra-
ordinary works only approximately represents the establish-
ment charges for these works. It is interesting however, to
note that this proportion has fallen from nearly 14% in
1903 to just over 10% in 1905.
