1 submit, therefore, that for the estimates of 1907 an
arrangement more in accordance with the intentions of the Govern- ment should be arrived at and that if exchange should exceed 2/-
my remuneration should be paid at a maximum rate of 2/-.
The rate of 3/- is suggested because at the time when I accepted the sterling remuneration no one imagined that the rate of exchange could possibly exceed 2/-. I submit, however, that I might reasonably ask the Government to pay the $12,000 inserted
in the estimates for 1906.
