Referring to my despatch No.184 dated the

14th. July, 1905, I have the honour to transmit 6 copies

of the Report of the Inspector of Schools for the year

The report shows that in Government (includ-

ing Queen's College), Grant and Private Schools taken toge-

ther there was an average daily school attendance of some

9,375 children or 14.22% of the population of 65,942 be-

tween the ages of 5 and 20 according to the census for

an increase of 1.34% on the attendance of the pre-

1901

vious year (Table V); that the attendance in the Government

Schools, exclusive of Queen's College, was 782 against 636,

an increase of 23% (Table I), and in the grant schools was

3,527 against 3,305 an increase of 6. .72% (Table VII); that

while the expenditure, including that on Queen's College,

continued to bear about the same average proportion as in
