I have the honour to transmit a
copy of a minute in which Sir Henry Spencer Berkeley, Kt..
Attorney-General, asks that he may be told the amount of
the pension which will be allowed to him if he retires on
attaining the pensionable age in September next. Sir Henry's
service has been divided up between the Colonies of the
Leeward Islands, Fiji, and Hongkong, and as it is, I under-
-stand, usual for the Secretary of State in cases of pen-
-sion payable by several Colonies to decide the amount,
I submit the Attorney-General's question for Your Lord-
-ship's answer.

In the 23rd. paragraph of his
minute Sir Henry asks me to recommend to Your Lordship to
sanction under Section No.
7 of the Pension Minute of the
lat. January, 1902, the grant by the Governor in Council
of a pension at a higher rate and on more favourable
conditions than those for the time being authorised by
