The revenue derived from Markets
and Market Licences, the incidence of which as a tax on
food was discussed in my Despatch No. 199 of the 28th.
Of July last, increased from $105,876 in 1904 to $110,310 in
the year under review. A small market was opened in December
last at Mong Kok Tsui in the North Western part of the
Kowloon Peninsula and the large new Western Market in the
centre of the most populous district of Victoria is rapidly
approaching completion. I propose to provide in the
Estimates for the ensuing year for the building of a
market of some fifty stalls at Quarry Bay to supply the
