I shall be much obliged if the
revised map may now be reproduced by the Topographical
Section of the General Staff of the Army, and that 100
copies may be sent to me of which 50 will be required for
fulfilment of the obligation to the Basel Mission and 50
for the use of this Government.
As the decision to reproduce the
map was mainly based on its value for Military purposes
in the event of operations being undertaken at any time in
the Kwang-tung Province and as payment for its revision is
being made by this Government I assume that no charge will
be made for its reproduction or for the copies asked for
above.

I propose that the registers, to
which it will be necessary to refer in preparing the re-
-production of the map, should be returned to me when that
reproduction is completed, in order that they may be re-
-printed as one document in Hongkong where the printing
of the Chinese names which are an essential part of the
work can probably be done more economically and accurately
than in London.

I see no objection to printed
copies of the map being placed on sale to the public in what
