Seiyingpun School,

Hongkong, 7th. March, 1908.

In soector of Schools.

I have the honour to request that you will forward

my application to His Excellency with a recommendation that my present rate of salary (8270 to £330) be augmented, and that I be remunerated at the rate of 8880 to £480.

I append what I consider sufficient grounds for the

revision of the existing scale,

1.

The oresent rate is totally inadeonsbe to maintala a

and family in reasonable confort.

as

The cost of living and the rate of exchange are at

oresent very high, so much so, that £150 in England goes as far as £800 here.

0+

At the present rate of exchange I am losing about £80

Dec 80nuM.

a.

b.

It is not condensacate with the work demanded,

An Assistant (unmaceled) has been appointed for the

new Yaumati School at £270 per annum and it is only rea-

sonable to excect, that a Head Master, with the respon- sibility of a School, should be on a higher scale, of which an Assistant's maximum, should be a Bead Teacher's

minimun,

The Masters of the two British Schools are on s

scale of 1880 to 6480 together with Free Quarters, and I

em of opinion that the work of an Anglo-Chinese School

is far more arduous, and should, at least, receive

eoulvblent remuneration.
