If the above list is considered and compared with my present in-

come,

the only conclusion et which I think you can conscientiously arcive is that I am considerably underpaid seeing my attainments, c80abilities and professional qualification are quite equal to those held by the majority of those quoted above.

These comoarisons could be carried on through all branches of the Government service in which trained professionel nen ere employed,

Lapsing Pay.

During my Colonial service of nearly five years I have never had the pleasure of drawing "Lepsiog Pay". Nearly every suborlinebe civil servant with whom I am personally acquainted have drawn for various periods reading from three to twelve months, amounts varying from $30 to $150 per measen la addition to their own pay. In my oosition it is practically impossible for me to ever partake of that privilege.

Extraneous Duty.

A great number of those engaged in the Scholastic profession under the Colonial Government of Hongkong considerably augments their salaries by engaging in extraneous work. This work is not practicable for me even if I wished to do so, as the performance of my daily round under present conditions is of such a nature as to demand my whole time and attention, and in justice to the puoils under my tuition. I feel that it would be detrimental to them, to the welfare of my school and to my own personal health to engage in such duties.
