1, Geoffrey Charles Moxon of Victoria, Hong-
-xong do solemnly and sincerely declare that:-
1. I am the Managing Director of the National Bank of
China, Limited, of London and hongkong and becare such Managing
Director on the 9th. day of February, 1905, previous to that date
I had been a director for some considerable tire.
2. The mortgage of the coal at Canton made by tung Wa
Chun to the Bank was approved of by me upon the distinct under-
-standing that the coal should be placed in the actual possession
of the Bank's agents at Canton and held by them on behalf of the
Bank exclusively and deliveries were only to be made under the
orders of the Eank granted on the Bank's agents and upon no condi-
-tion other than the coal being placed in our possession would the
Board of Directors have sanctioned the said mortgage.
3. As such Managing Director I authorised delivery or~
-ders for portions of the said coal on the agents of the Bank at
Canton such orders were as follows:-

7,000 tons in all against which the Bank received payment in cash
at the rate of $5 per ton and all interest accrued on the loan.
4. The Book marked "A" now produced and shewn to me
contains on pages 42, 43, 55, 56, 66, 67, 71, 72, 87, 104 and 109
the press copies of the delivery orders or advices concerning the
same and such press copies are true and correct copies of delivery
orders or advices actually given or sent. The Book marked "R"
