wita reference to your lauter No. 883 of the

24th. November last addressed to the Colonial Secretary requesting

assistance in furnishing full particulars of the situation develop-

-ed between the Viceroy, the National Bank of China and kr. Bung

Wa Chúa on account of the seizure of coal by the Viceroy and to be

informed as to Mr. Bong Wa-chún's status as a British subject, i

have the honour to enclose copy of a letter from Mr. G. 0. Moxon

Managing Director of the Sub-National Bank of China, Limited, end

copies of a deed of Morigaga, of a Statutory Declaration and of a

balance sheet.

With regard to the question whether Me. Vung

Ma-chùn is a British subject or not, I beg to enclose a copy of

the form on which a certificate of birta issued to that gentleman

on the 5th. December, 1899. Mr. Fong Wa-chun is as you are aware

a Justice of the Peace and a leading Chinese Merchant in hongkong

where ne has always resided.
