Sir,

In continuation of Mr. May's Des-

-patch No. 163 dated the 18th. April, 1904, on the subject

of Cotton Cultivation in this Colony, I have the honour to

transmit for your information a copy of a report by the

Superintendent, Botanical and Afforestation Department,

giving the results of experiments carried out last year.

2.

These results were very unsatis-

-factory due, according to Mr. Dunn, partly to unfavourable

weather, partly to bad selection of typical rather than

specially favourable sites for the experiments and partly

to insufficient supervision. I see no reason why the ex-

-periments were not watched either by the Superintendent

or his Assistant sufficiently closely to ensure their

being properly carried out, and I am informing Mr. Dunn to

this effect.

3.

Further experiments will be made

this

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES.
