The Chinese have, as you are doubtless aware,
instituted
a boycott of American goods that are being sold in China. It would appear that the movement, if not initiated, has reached its most acute stage in the Province of Canton.
This Company has large factories in England and America for the purpose of manufacturing tobaccos and cigarettes,
We recently received a cable from our Hong-Kong Depot
to the effect that all our manufactures were being interfered with and that for a fortnight no business had been transacted there for local merchants or for Canton.
The instigators of the Boycott are extending it to goods,wherever manufactured, if the raw material is produced in the
United States.
You will therefore understand that although it means serious loss to this Company, other manufacturers, such as the Lancashire Cotton merchants will suffer more considerably.
