The preamble drawn up by the Solicitors reci-
ting a clause of the Kowloon lease seems to me not
quite necessary.
The argument may quite well be
used by me in discussion, but I do not see the use of
putting it into the agreement. The draft contract
drawn up by lawyers is a horrid piece of drafting.
Ross has been trying to summarize it in plain Eng-
lish for me, and finds the task difficult. I ob-
served that if he could not read a legal document,
how could any one be expected to put it into intel-
ligible Chinese.
