I am commanded by the Army Council to acquaint
you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that it has been ascertained from the General Officer Commanding the Troops, South China, that a quantity of Russian Ammunition referred to in the enclosed copy of a telegram from that Officer was recently confiscated by the Colonial Authorities at Hong Kong.
2. The Council would be glad to receive home a small portion of this ammunition with a view to its
OBRAS
examination,to ascertain if the bulk of it could be
made use of for Imperial Service.

If there is no objection, I am to request
that you will move Mr Secretary Lyttelton to cause the
following to be handed over to the Military Authorities
at Hong Kong, vizt:-
12 pdr. fixed ammunition
1 pdr. fixed ammunition
Small Arm Ammunition
Complete packages containing 20 to 25 rounds.
Complete packages containing 50 to 100 rounds.
Complete package containing 1,000 rounds.
