SECTION 1.

Sir,

Board of Trade to Foreign Office.-(Received August 26.)

Board of Trade, August 25, 1905.

I AM directed by the Board of Trude to refer to your letter of the 8th instant,, inclosing a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking covering copies of the French text of the amendments to the Chinese Trade-mark Regulations, and inquiring whether the Board of Trade have any observations to offer, and, in reply, to. state, for the information of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, that steps are being taken to ascertain the views of the Chambers of Commerce and other bodies interested in the amended text of the Regulations.

In the meantime I an to inclose a copy of the Trade Marks Act, 1905*, and to call attention to the provision of section 64, sub-section 10 (a), as regards the registration of word marks in respect of cotton piece goods and cotton yarn. Word marks, in the present circunstances, would not be refused registration in respect of sewing cotton, and Article 8 therefore requires to be amended by the omission of the words, "les fils. de coton à condre.”

I am, &c.
