an directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to

acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 21st

instant, relating to Mr. A. H. Rennie's claim for

compensation in connection with the detention of the

Steamships "Calchas" and "Arabia" by the Russian

Naval Authorities, and to state that His Lordship

concurs in the course proposed by Mr. Secretary Lyt-

telton.

I am at the same time to enclose a copy of the

Russian Prize Regulations, and to call attention to

Rules 58 (2), 87 and 88, and I am to add that the

question of which is the competent court in which to

initiate proceedings is at present forming the sub-

ject of correspondence with the Russian Government.
