Foreign Office, July 5, 1905.

I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit to you, to be laid before the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, the accompanying copy of a letter from the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, urging that the Chinese Government should be reminded of their obligations under Article II of the Anglo-Chinese Commercial Treaty of 1902 to provide for a uniform national coinage.

You will observe that the Manchester Chamber of Commerce submit, in the event of the Chinese Government not being prepared to establish one central mint, the same proposals with regard to provincial mints as were contained in the letter from the China Association of the 23rd May last, copy of which was inclosed in the letter from this Office of the 30th of the same month.
