Treaty by Article IX of which they agree to the payment
of a surtax in consideration of the abolition of likin
by the Chinese Goverment.
His Lordship would be glad to learn whether Mr.
Secretary Lyttelton is of opinion that in the reply to
the Portuguese Government comment is required on any of
the other Articles of the Treaty.
The favour of an early reply is requested, in view
of Sir M. de Bunsen's desire for a telegraphic answer
to his enquiry.
