I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to ac-
knowledge the receipt of your letter 6124 of the 10th
instant, enclosing copies of correspondence on the sub-
ject of the competition of certain subsidised French
steamers, which ply between Canton and Hongkong, with
the steamers of the Canton and Macao Steamboat Company,
Limited.
Lord Lansdowne would be glad to be favoured with
copies of the Ordinances referred to in the corres-
pondence viz. Nos. 10 and 36 of 1899, in order that
His Lordship may be in possession of full information
on the subject in the event of representations being
received from the French Government.
