I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
mr letter of 5th June 1905, with enclosures, and I beg to port thereon, as follows.

The selection of the lower site No. 1. (vide par.
of the Governor's report) is judicious; the length of the
is smaller and the volume of water impounded is larger,
an at the upper site, No. 2. The only drawback to the
Her site, No. 1, is the extra depth of puddle trench which
involves. This, in my opinion, is unimportant compared
th the advantages gained; one of which is the greater
ea of gathering ground from which rain flows directly to
le reservoir. Experience shews that areas rendered avail-
le by catch-water channels are not as efficient as those,
om which water flows, direct, to the reservoir.

The proposed section of dam, is one that has been opted by Mr. Mansergh, C.E. in several cases. The fficulty of constructing a continuous wall of clay-puddle,
I regret that since the above was written, Mr. Mansergh sed away after a prolonged illness.
