In reply to Sir Henry Blake's teste letter of
the 12th ulto., 1656/1899, C.S.O./G, relative to the
site of the Naval Infectious Hospital, I have the honour
to inform your Excellency that the extra area referred to
would be of no use to the Admiralty under the conditions
named therein, viz:- that the Government shall be at
liberty at any time to resume free of cost any portion
of the said area.
I would however be prepared to recommend to the
Admiralty that it be accepted in lieu of the $1,092 due to
them if the Admiralty be allowed to use it as necessary,
the Colonial Government having power at any time to re-
sume occupation, provided they give compensation for any
loss caused to the Admiralty thereby. Also that should
Kennedy Road be widened (as seems to be contemplated in the
plan, a strip of land at the North West corner having been
apparently reserved for this purpose) the Colonial Govern-
ment would provide an equally convenient road, a con-
siderable portion of the lower end of which is cut off by
this reserved strip.
