I have the honour to submit for
the signification of His Majesty's pleasure Ordinance No.10
of 1905 entitled "An Ordinance relating to the Maintenance
of Married Women deserted by their husbands" together with
the customary report of the Attorney-General thereon.
2.
The desirability of conferring
upon the Magistrates in the Colony powers similar to those
possessed by Magistrates in England to make maintenance
orders is justified by the frequent appeals to the Regis-
-trar-General for assistance in cases of desertion, cruelty
and neglect.
3.
This general measure has been in
-troduced pending consideration of the larger question of
the status of Chinese wives, and is complementary to the
