Referring to your telegram of the
18th. instant and my telegram in reply thereto, an en clair
version of which is enclosed > on the subject of the death
of Police Constable H. Harding on the 29th. June last, I
have the honour to inform you that this death took place in
the Government Civil Hospital, the cause being cerebral
embolism caused by heart disease. The Captain Superinten-
-dent of Police informed the deceased's relatives to this
effect by letter on the 30th. June.

A telegraphic report was not made
to you at the time as Mr. Chamberlain's instructions con-
-veyed in the second paragraph of his Despatch No. 118 of
9237
the 31st. March, 1903, refer only to the case of the death 03
of an Officer engaged in England, and the Officer in
question was engaged locally.
