No. 183.

Hongkong.

sir,

48

29106 Government House,

Hongkong, 14th, July, 1905.

I have the honour to request that

I may be furnished with copies of any Ordinances that may

have been passed or of the drafts of any that may be under

consideration dealing with the registration of Muhammedan

marriages in the West African Colonies.

2.

The passing of an Ordinance in

this connection was in contemplation on the Gold Coast

1904

when I left there early in 469 and my desire to know what

was eventually done in this matter is due to the question

of the desirability of recognising Chinese customary law

as to marriage and inheritance being now under the con-

-sideration of the Government of Hongkong.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

M. Euthan

Governor, &c..

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C., M.P.,

&C. *
