Government House,
Hongkong, 29th. June, 1905.
02
Referring to Sir Henry Blake's
Despatch No. 481 of the 5th. November, 1902, on the subject
of the Praya East Reclamation, I have the honour to inform
you that in consequence of a resolution passed at a recent
meeting of the Marine Lot-holders to the effect that it is
inexpedient at the present time to take any further steps
towards reclamation, the proposed scheme has been definite-
-ly abandoned.
2.
Circumstances have altered since
the scheme was first mooted in 1900 rendering doubtful its
financial success at the present time owing to the tendency
for expansion at Kowloon rather than in Hongkong.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant, *
Mr. Nathan
Governor, &c..
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C., M.P.,
