particulars are given in the paper enclosed has now occur-
-red in the permanent establishment by the resignation,
elsewhere reported, of Dr. E. A. R. Laing. In accordance
with the instructions issued by Mr. Chamberlain in 1903,
I have informed the Governor of the Straits Settlements
of this vacancy but unless you are particularly desirous
at the present time to appoint to it Medical Officer from
another Government Service, I recommend the appointment of
Dr. Moore as an Assistant wink Surgeon in the Medical
Department of Hongkong from the 1st. September next when
the plague season will be over, on a salary of £480 to
£720 by £40 triennially without allowances of any kind and
without private practice in accordance with the terms of
Mr. Chamberlain's Despatch No. 138 of the 9th. of May,
1902.

to this place a candidate from another Colony, Dr. Moore
has asked that he may be recommended for the vacancy thus
