I would further ask that information may be given as to the salaries paid by the Colonial Government to the various grades of men employed at the Signal Stations in question, and whether, in view of the reduction of staff due to the introduc- tion of Naval Ratings, in place of those now in charge of Sta- tions, the Colonial Government would be prepared to grant a Colo- nial Allowance to such Naval Ratings, in addition to their ser-

vice pay.
