Referring to your telegram of the

1st. June received through the Governor of the Straits

Settlements, in which you enquired whether I had any news

of the S. S. "Oldhamia", reported to have been captured by

the Russians and sent away with a prize crew in company

with an auxiliary cruiser, I have the honour to enclose

en clair versions of telegrams sent you on the 5th.

6th. instant giving the gist of reports received from

Swatow and Tokyo respectively. These reports accounted for

the crew of the captured vessel but furnished no informa-

-tion with regard to the fate of the vessel itself.

On the 7th. instant I sent for

Mr. J. Ison who had

the Chief Officer of the "Oldhamia”

arrived here from Swatow and received his account of the

incident. I annex this account as taken down by the Harbour

Master as well as a somewhat fuller statement by Mr. Ison
