for the New Territories was fixed at £440 £500 in order to
equalise it with that of the Assistant Land Officer under the
Sterling Salary Scheme.

The Sterling Salary of the Assessor of
Rates, £540 £600 by £30 triennially, was fixed in the origin-
al Sterling Salary Scheme at practically the equivalent of
the dollar salary attaching to the post converted at the rate
of 3/- to the dollar.

These slight variations from the Classifica-
tion Scheme are not very satisfactory and when it may be ne-
cessary in the future to recommend to you the creation of new
offices or new appointments to offices not now in accordance
with the Scheme I shall endeavour to adhere as closely as is
possible to that Scheme.
