One of the witnesses Long Shing, of the Sua Tax Sing junk who
still continues dredging at Ping Chou stated also that the Sham Shui Po
lize burners refused to buy their sheile because the licence fee had

S. It is to be remarked that none of these people ever attempted
to work under the new system, and if they had continued towork and sold
their shells to the Ping Chau line burners they would have suffered no
loss at all and the Sham Shui Po line burners would have done sooner
what they are doing now, that is they would have paid the Crown Lessees
charge of 8 canderesus cer Teu and left the dredgers the same price for
their shelle as before.
Under present conditions there is no loss to the dredgers, end
Ohiv Fun the master of the Tang o juak states in his evidence that un-
der oresent circumstances he would not have sent in his Petition to tha
Governrent.
10. The first four witnesses out forward on behalf of the shell
gatherers were to show that by reason of the Company Levying e charge
for dredging at Fing Chau the busibess stopped because the envioyees rs- fused to work end in consequence the wasters of the junks laid the jucks up ar Sai Row near Sham Shui Po and they became rotten or isany and
the compensation asked for by those witnesses was on account of damage to the junks by laying them go, and not compensation for loss of work or
business because the Leases were granted.
- 11. In the case of the first vitness Lan Sang, the master of the
junk Lar Sang Li, he admitted his junk, (a small one) was 30 years cid and bis junk had been rotten for 2 years. He wents compensation to re- pair his old junk in which case he could earn more money than before as
the price of shells is higher. As he revoved on his own account from Ping Chau and laid op his cid junk et Sei Rok and edits that cut for
the condition of his junk he would be making no loss, I do not recommend
eny compensation to be paid in this case.
12. In the case of Chee Yen the Bad, witness, the master of the jung
Yau Lee, his junk was not working and was snchored, and was wrecked by a
typhoon. He adrits that he stopped dredging because tus Company started
