It is true that I paid I had not had time to deal with certain legal notices, which was a simple fact, and of serving notice adopted by the Public Works Department. I have two District Inspectors under my charge who had, for a period of four or five months, been reporting on certain building nuisances there. Reports were sent by me daily to the Secretary and notices were served by the Public Works Department, not daily, however, but practically all at one time. Copies of these notices were sent to me at different times, but all within a period of about three weeks. It would naturally take a considerable time to cover the ground which it had taken two months to cover, and this is the reason some of the notices were a long time not attended to.

The second paragraph on the Charge is misleading and untrue; the period I referred was only four days, of which was a Saturday (only half working day), one was the following Sunday, and a Bank Holiday.
