Statement
I am a Senior Clerk in the Secretariat
I was engaged in England for the Government by the Crown Agents for the Colonies and commenced my duties here on the 6th of November 1907
In reply to the 1st Charge, I entirely deny that I am in any way slack in the discharge of my duties or that I ever keep documents referred for a longer period than is necessary for me to give them my attention. That some documents are a considerable time with me is not owing to any fault of mine, but by reason of the unsystematic manner in which documents are sent to me, the fact being that I sometimes receive hundreds of different documents at one time, and as I must take them in regular order, naturally a long time elapses before some of them are attended to
