AN ENTERPRISE IN CHINA. GREAT BANKING PROJECT.
St. Petersburg, January 23.
A dispatch from Peking states that a number of Chinese capitalists resident in the United States, Australia, and China have organised a great mercantile company with headquarters at Hong Kong.
It is intended to establish a powerful bank, and to undertake a very large export and import business.
It is also proposed to institute a college, on the European model, and to form an agricultural producing company. For this purpose the promoters have secured on lease some thousands of acres in the province of Canton.
There is reason to believe that certain great American capitalists are also interested in this important project.--Central News.
