Foreign Office to Board of Trade.
Foreign Office, October 14, 1904. WITH reference to the letter from this Office of the 10th instant, in which a translation of the Trade-marks Regulations recently issued by the Chinese Government was forwarded to you, I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit herewith, to be laid before the Board of Trade, for their observations, the accompanying copy of a telegram which has been received from His Majesty's Minister at Peking, reporting the amendments desired by the Chamber of Commerce at Shanghae in the Regulations. Sir E. Satow suggests that, if the amendments are approved, he should be instructed to request that the date for their coming into force should be deferred for six months.
I am to request that, in view of the last paragraph in Sir E. Satow's telegram, Lord Lansdowne may be favoured, with the least possible delay, with the opinion of the Board on the subject.
