CONFIDENTIAL.
No. 1.
589 [October 7.]
SECTION 1.
(No. 270.) Sir,
The Marquess of Lansdowne to Sir E. Satow.
Foreign Office, October 7, 1904.
I HAVE received your despatch No. 226 of the 22nd June last, on the subject of the undelimited section of the Burma-Yünnan frontier.
I transmit to you a copy of a letter which has been received from the India Office,* to whom your despatch was referred, and I request that you will, as therein suggested, take a suitable opportunity to inform the Chinese Government that His Majesty's Government will continue to regard as the provisional boundary the line laid down by Mr. Scott in 1900, and so intimate that Chinese officials and troops cannot be allowed to transgress it.
I am, &c.
(Signed)
