With reference to my letter of the 28th ultimo,

I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit to you, to be laid before the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking, enclosing a despatch which has been addressed to the Government of Hongkong by the Acting British Consul General at Canton, on the subject of the Hung Ch'üan Fu murder case.

Lord Lansdowne proposes, if Mr. Secretary Lyttelton concurs, to approve Mr. Campbell's proceedings in the matter.
