Sir,
I am directed by the Board of Customs to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State, that it has been reported to them that the undermentioned British merchant vessels have been sold to Japanese owners, viz:-
B.S. Kohirur of Liverpool.
S.S. Gloucester City of Bristol.
S.S. Kirkdale of Glasgow.
S.S. Robert Dickinson of London.
The Kohirur 2967 tons gross, 1935 tons net, was sold at Kobé under a Certificate of Sale dated the 28th March last granted by Mr. W.P. Miller of 20 Billiter Street, London, the last owner to Mr. E.C. Davis of Yokohama: and the registry was closed on the 16th instant under advice from the Acting British Consul at Kobé. According to Lloyd's Index of the 16th instant, the vessel is trading in the East Indies and the China Seas.
The Gloucester City 2193 tons gross, 1409 tons net, was transferred on the 1st instant to Mr. W.R. Corfield, of Cardiff, who issued a Certificate of Sale empowering Messrs G.J. Melhuish and G.S. Thomson, Managers in Japan of Messrs Dodwell and Company, Merchants, St. Mary Axe, London, to sell the vessel at Kobé or Yokohama for £10,000 within three months. The vessel is believed to be with a fleet trading between British Columbia, Japan and China.
The Kirkdale 2873 tons gross, 1853 tons net. In the case of this vessel the Kirkdale Steamship Company Limited, 87, St. Vincent Street, Glasgow, issued a Certificate of Sale
