In reply to your despatch No.1 of the 21st January on the subject of the deportation of Florence Garrett, I have the honour to state that in accordance with the instructions of Mr. Bourne, then Acting Chief Justice, I arranged that the expenses of her deportation to Hong Kong including all the costs of maintenance &c., incurred here for herself and child, passage to Hong Kong, and expenses of the Constable sent to accompany her thither should be paid by Mr. Wilson. The Acting Chief Justice's order of deportation to Hong Kong was thus carried out, as far as this office was concerned, without any charge whatever on the public funds.
