With reference to previous correspondence respecting

the Russian sailors taken on board British, French, and

Italian ships of war at Chemulpo, I am directed by the

Marquess of Lansdowne to transmit, to be laid before the

Secretary of State for the Colonies, the accompanying copy

of a telegram from His Majesty's Ambassador at Rome, re-

porting that the Italian Government enquire whether the

Russian refugees on board the Italian ship of war may be

sent to Hong Kong harbour, there to be put on board a char-

-tered vessel pending arrangements for their conveyance to

Russia.
