The local practitioners did not however abate & Miro Schäfer placed herself under the care of Dr. Venser, who after a careful examination and prescribed local treatment, complete rest in pure air and under favourable conditions hopes that in about 6 months or less she may be completely cured. He has now given a certificate which I enclose.
Miss Schäfer's resources will not allow of her meeting the necessary rest, nor are her family in a position to help her. The Association through its Sick Pay Fund has already done something, but the Committee hope that as her ill health is primarily due to the attack of plague which she contracted from a patient in the Hongkong hospital, Mr. Secretary Lyttelton might perhaps be able to give her some assistance towards the expenses of the long enforced rest for a definite period.
A grant at the rate of £4 a week would relieve her from all immediate anxieties, and if considered desirable the Association would be prepared to administer any further sum that may be granted.
The Committee desire very earnestly to commend Miss Schäfer's case to Mr. Secretary Lyttelton's kind consideration.
