Erected and Supported by Voluntary Contributions. Delightfully situated on the Cheshire bank of the River Mersey, between Egremont and New Brighton.

OPENED BY H.R.H. THE LATE DUKE OF EDINBURGH, 16th DECEMBER, 1882.

THE CENTRAL BUILDING, or "CLIFF HOME," erected at the sole cost of the late Mr. W. CLIFFE, provided for the entire maintenance of Aged Mariners (Shipmasters, Officers, and Seamen), as the funds will permit. There are now 66 inmates.

THE COTTAGE HOMES, in the same grounds, viz. The "SLACE Cottages," the "DIXON Cottages," the "KELLOCK Cottage," the "SANDER Cottage," the "REYNER Cottages," the "FORWOOD Cottages," the "AURANTA and ETRURIA Cottages," the "BACON Cottages," the "PICKUP Cottages," "ASHTON Cottages," the "BROCKLEHURST Cottages," the "MCINNES Cottages," the "POTTER Cottages," "Chaddock Cottages," and the "HARLING Cottages," are for Aged Mariners who have Wives or other suitable Relatives to live with them, or as may be determined by the Council. Here they have a comfortable home, firing, gas, water, and taxes free, and a small pension, with liberty to engage in shipkeeping or other suitable employment.

THE PARK will admit of additional Cottages being erected and endowed.

OUT-PENSIONS, for Aged Mariners who have friends they prefer to reside amongst, but who cannot support them altogether, and CASUAL RELIEF TO THE WIDOWS OF MARINERS, are also included among the objects of the Institution, as the funds are provided.

DONORS of £5,000 may name a Ward, and Donors of £1,000 may name a Cabin in the Main Building.

Mr. ALEXANDER SPEIRS, Mrs. W. WRIGHT, the late Miss MARTHA RIDGWAY, and Messrs. RANKIN GILMOUR & Co., have each endowed a Cabin.

Aged Merchant Seamen and Widows Fund, 19 Feb

For affording pecuniary relief to Aged and Poor Shipmasters, Officers, and Seamen of all ranks, and the WIDOWS and Children of Mariners, who are in circumstances of distress. Four-fifths of the Income is derived from Annual Subscriptions, Donations, and Collections—a small Invested Fund yielding the only reliable income.

Pensions were granted to 126 aged Mariners and Widows, and casual relief was given to aged and distressed Mariners and Widows in 862 instances during the past twelve months; over £24,700 paid in Monthly Allowances and Casual Relief, since its formation in 1870, by the Mercantile Marine Service Association.

Liverpool Seamen's Pension Fund.

Founded by the late Mr. T. H. ISMAY, in June, 1887, by a Jubilee Gift of £20,000.

Since augmented by Gifts from other kind Donors to a total of nearly £48,000.

The income of which permits 110 Aged Mariners receiving a pension amounting to £20 per annum each.

The late Mr. Ismay also laid down the following basis for the fund:-

1. The object of the fund is to provide pensions for British sailors who have sailed out of Liverpool or in Liverpool-owned ships, and who have been unable to make adequate provision for their declining years.

2. The pension, which it is proposed shall be fixed at £20 per annum, will not be granted to any person other than a British sailor, and will be continued at the absolute discretion of the Committee.

3. No person shall be eligible for a pension who is able to serve at sea, or who has not attained the age of fifty years.

4. Those persons only will be admitted as Candidates, who can prove twenty-five years of service at sea in the mercantile marine as Captain, Deck Officer, or Seaman.

5. The Fund may be invested in the name of the Mercantile Marine Service Association, who will have the power of selecting suitable Candidates for the pension.

The "MARGARET ISMAY" WIDOWS' FUND, established by Mrs. ISMAY, with a Donation of £10,000.

Provides Grants of £10 per annum to Widows of Pensioners of the Liverpool Seamen's Pension Fund.
