frontage and provided that the Eastern end of that frontage should be in alignment with the frontage of the proposed Eastern Praya Extension, but no question then arose as to the Eastern boundary of the War Department reclamation.
The annexed plans W and X show the two schemes.
It will be readily understood that consent would not have been given on the part of the War Office to a scheme which involved an overlapping of War Department land to the west of Arsenal Street by the Eastern Praya Extension. That this view is appreciated by the Colonial Government will be seen from a memorandum by the Director of Public Works, dated 30th October, 1902, enclosed with the letter of the 8th November, 1902, No.115/G, from the Governor to the Officer Commanding the Troops.
In that memorandum the Director mentions that a question had arisen with regard to the boundary now in dispute, and in para: 8 thereof he says "the only satisfactory boundary which can be established between the two reclamations is a straight line to be drawn from the N.W. corner of Arsenal Street, otherwise objections must arise as to a portion of one frontage being obstructed by the neighbouring reclamation"
