LLOYD'S REGISTER OF BRITISH & FOREIGN SHIPPING,

71, Fenchurch Street, London, E.C.

8th February, 1904

I am directed to acquaint you for the information

of the Board of Trade that it has been the practice

of the Surveyor to this Society at Trieste for many

years to hold surveys on vessels belonging to the

Austrian Lloyd Steam Navigation Co., which trade between that port and India and China, with a view to

furnishing a certificate to the effect that the vessels have been placed in dry dock, and that the bottom has been examined and the propeller shaft drawn

in and examined and all found in good condition, or

as the case may be.

It appears that this docking certificate is required by the Austrian Lloyd Company in order to obtain a Passenger Certificate under the regulations

in force at ports in India and China, and that the

docking portion of the survey prescribed by those

regulations is usually held at Trieste to suit the

convenience
