of obtaining the property was under consideration, His Excellency the Governor in a letter of the 25th August 1903 to the Naval Commander-in-Chief (copy herewith) stated that there was a certain amount of private property on the Peninsula, but that the Colonial Government were ready to resume it, if found necessary, free of cost, to the Admiralty.
At a later date the Naval Commander-in-Chief reported on the 1st December 1903 (copy herewith) that he was informed by His Excellency the Governor that the Colonial Government would bear the cost of resuming and repaying compensation for private property on the Peninsula.
5. In view of the statement contained in His Excellency the Governor's letter of the 25th August 1903 referred to in the preceding paragraph, I am to ask that the Secretary of State will be good enough to give the necessary instructions that if the amount in question (£391-35) has been paid by the Admiralty, it may be refunded.
