In reply to your letter of the 11th instant,
No.10944/1904 relative to the communication of intelligence as to the coaling of belligerent ships at British
Ports during the present war, I am commanded by My Lords
Commissioners of the Admiralty to state, for the informa-
tion of Mr Secretary Lyttelton, that although such cases
are not likely to occur, it would, in their opinion, be
desirable that general instructions should be issued that
in the event of any belligerent ship coaling at a British
Port, the fact should be at once communicated by telegraph
to adjacent British Ports on the vessel's line of route.
