Government House, Hongkong, 26th. October, 1904.

closure 1.

Sir,

For звае 02.3

In continuation of Sir Henry Blake's Despatch No. 555 dated the 24th. December, 1902, and of previous correspondence on the subject of dredging and deepening the Harbour of Hongkong, I have the honour to transmit herewith 6 copies of a Report dated the 30th. July last by Mr. J. F. Boulton, Acting Assistant Director of Public Works, and of correspondence connected therewith as well as a copy of the seven small charts marked 'A' to 'H' referred to in the first paragraph of the Report, and sheet of sections.

2. You will see that that part of the Report that deals with the rate at which deposit in the Harbour is going on is based on the evidence afforded by the soundings shown on the charts that have been issued from time to time by the Hydrographer, but that it has not been found possible to determine locally with accuracy the dates when these soundings were taken nor the zero to which they have been referred.

More accurate data would be available if the Admiralty could supply copies of all the charts divided into sections, the dates being shown on which each of the sections was sounded,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C., M.P.,
